There are few things that send my heart a-flutter like a clean space. I find that I'm happier, more productive, calmer and just overall a better person. Dramatic? Maybe, but the difference a clean space can do for your mental health is pretty dramatic. It's a game changer.
The problem is that finding time to do a thorough clean can be a challenge. Myself I'm trying to balance working from home with a toddler, and it's a constant juggling act of priorities. Unfortunately, maintaining a clean house has fallen to the bottom of the list. After a year of feeling guilty about our messy space, and the mental chaos that came with it, I decided to hire one of the best cleaning services in the city: Geoffrey The Butler.

Now I've heard of Geoffrey The Butler long before reaching out to book them for our space; their good reputation in Toronto precedes them. They're known for offering cleaning services for condos, houses and offices alike, their speed and attention to detail when cleaning. Geoffrey The Butler also prides themselves on being the quality and reliable choice when it comes to cleaning your space - two qualities that are very important to me, as reliability is imperative when dealing with scheduling and a toddler. Something else that drew me to Geoffrey The Butler, as opposed to any other cleaning service that I've seen, is their local pride and how they praise and celebrate their staff on social media. It's these little details that matter when selecting businesses to support, especially after the year we've all had. I was sold, and couldn't wait for Geoffrey The Butler to preform magic on our space.
I chose The Geoffrey Clean, which is the highest level of clean there is. It's been a year into a pandemic, with two adults and a toddler working from home. We needed to call in the big guns. Otherwise, you could also select a maintenance clean, or even a move-in/move-out option! I wish I had known about Geoffrey when we were moving into our house from the condo. You can also select add-ons to your service, such as cleaning to walls, fridge, ovens, windows, etc. It's all there.
The Booking Process
Booking a cleaning for your space with Geoffrey The Butler couldn't be easier - everything is done online. You select your date, the service you would like and any add-ons you require. Super easy and convenient.
How Long Did It Take?
I can speak for myself and my experience, but the entire cleaning process took about 3 hours - which was much quicker than I was anticipating! For reference, our space is about 2500 square feet. Because Geoffrey The Butler came with multiple staff, they were able to divide and conquer, resulting in a full clean in half the time it would have taken me to do it myself. I really appreciate the speed in which they work, especially since I had my toddler Benny with me and we were out park-hopping while they worked.
Did You Stay While They Cleaned?
Due to the nature of the world, and
Geoffrey The Butler's strict COVID measures (which I appreciate,) you're required to either be outside of your space while they work, or stay contained to one space until they're ready to clean it. Because I had Benny with me, it was easier to just take him outside for the day. My husband Brian had to stay in the house because of work and meetings, and just stayed contained to the office until it was ready to be cleaned - simple.
Did You "Pre-Clean?"
Okay, so here's the thing: I'm notorious for "pre-cleaning" before a cleaning service comes, and I know that I'm not alone. Not only do I not want people to know the chaos in which I live on the daily, but I also think that if you do a solid de-clutter then your cleaning service is able to do their jobs easier. On the day in which Geoffrey The Butler was scheduled to arrive, I had planned to do a thorough "pre-clean" in the morning. Well, as lucky would have it, I got a text from my friend letting me know of a pop-up vaccination clinic and that I needed to run over. I dropped everything, grabbed Benny and thankfully got my first dose of the vaccine! That meant though that I wasn't able to pre-clean as I usually do.
Not a worry though! First of all, the Geoffrey The Butler team was extremely gracious and reassured me that my house was not a disaster (even if they were just trying to make me feel better, it definitely helped.) They also took the time to group together my clutter so that they could clean thoroughly - this was especially important in the basement where Benny's toys live! I don't know if I've kicked my pre-cleaning habit for good, but I'm very reassured that the Geoffrey The Butler team has me covered when life gets in the way.
How Were The Results?
Y'all. When I say that I was floored with the results, I was ON THE FLOOR! First of all, my kitchen has never looked nicer - and that's including when we first moved in. The baseboards were cleaned, which makes that the first time they have been cleaned since we moved in, and THE BATHROOMS. OMG when I say that I cannot keep a clean bathroom, I'm not exaggerating. The Geoffrey The Butler team turned our bathrooms around and made them sparkle - I've never seen a cleaner faucet! I also noticed a huge difference in our shower tiles. It honestly felt like we had renovated. So so good.
The real difference came in the little details. Geoffrey The Butler takes pride in their attention to detail, and it showed. Our toilet paper was folded, and our beds made with our sleep masks placed tastefully next to the pillows - much like a hotel! The little details make an experience, and it's what made me want to book Geoffrey The Butler again.
What Are The Costs
I find the pricing at
Geoffrey The Butler very fair for cleaning services in the city! Pricing depends on the size of your space and square footage.
Should I Book?
If you have been thinking of hiring a cleaning service, my recommendation would be to do it. I know that oftentimes spending money on things that we could do ourselves leads to feelings of guilt, especially as women, but I cannot tell you what a difference it has made for me and my mental health. Not only am I able to save time, but I'm also allocating a task that I do not enjoy (and am bad at) to professionals who have a real passion for what they do. It's been such a game changer for me, and I truly believe that spending money to buy you back time is the best money that you could spend.
What do you guys think? Have you been thinking of hiring a cleaning service? Let me know!

I’m going to get one to come at least once a month to do the deep cleaning. Everyone I know has one and says it frees up their time to spend with family.
