April Favourites

I know that I must say this every month, but I truly cannot believe how quickly April has flown by.  Typical to a Canadian spring, April has been a mix of sunshine, warm weather, hail, rail and even snow - who can keep up?  Thankfully the strange weather didn't dampen the month, and I'm happy to report that there's quite a few new finds for the month of April.

Sanuk Yoga Slings

You guys - my feet have seen the light.  After week days of trotting around the city in heels, my need a break come the weekend. Enter the Sanuk Yoga Sling - made from recycled yoga mats, these babies are quite honestly the most comfortable sandals that I've ever owned.  I appreciate how secure your foot is, which is great for my back, and the material on the sandal is so soft. I wore the yoga slings for an entire day when they first arrived without one blister - a small miracle for me!  The yoga slings are now my go-to weekend sandal, and my mom has even picked up a pair for herself.  If you're in the market for an ultra comfortable footwear option with a lot of variety (they come in a ton of different colours and prints), definitely check out the Sanuk Yoga Sling.

Miaou Vintage

If you guys follow me on Snapchat (username: lapetitenoob) you would have seen that I had attended the most beautiful high tea hosted by Sabrina of Miaou, a place to find gorgeously curated collection of vintage goodies and beautiful designs.  I have always loved the idea of vintage shopping, but don't possess the patience that it takes to sift through piles of stuff to find a treasure.  Sabrina has an eye for those treasures, and thanks to her I was able to purchase the sweetest vintage ring with no work on my end!  If you're looking to get into vintage finds, but don't know where to start then definitely check out Miaou vintage.

Sekai Beauty Bar

Let me just start off by saying that I have never been one for nail art. When my mom and I went for manicures at Sekai Beauty Bar (on the recommendation of Gabriella of Pastels and Pastries) I had every intention of getting a basic gel mani, but left with something completely unique and special.  The girls at Sekai were so incredibly welcoming and the cool evil eye nail art is so incredible that I think I may be hooked!  After months of trying to find a great nail salon that not only is beautiful and clean, but also easy on the wallet, I'm happy to have found Sekai. Also - note the ring on my middle finger?  That's my Miaou score!

Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalíe

Wow. That's the only word that consistently comes to mind when I think about my experience at the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalíe, in Toronto's Shangri-La hotel.  From first entrance, down to the warm farewells I received on my way out the entire experience was luxury at its finest.  I tried the Caudalie Grand Facial and can honestly say, as someone who typically does not like facials, the experience was phenomenal.  Not only did my aesthetician take all of my concerns about having sensitive skin seriously, she was also so gentle.  The experience was a wonderful mix between skin treatment and relaxing massage so by the time it was over my face was plump and glowing, and I was uber relaxed - so relaxed that I fell asleep in the relaxation room after my treatment! After waking up from my nap, I was offered chai tea and a pistachio baklava and was so content that I felt like I was floating on my way out. For those of you looking for a luxurious treat in the city, I definitely recommend the Miraj Hammam Spa - plus they have some amazing specials going on for Mother's day so why not gift this experience to mom?

Cinco TO

I know that this is an April wrap up, but I couldn't not tell you about an incredible Cinco de Mayo celebration.  One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto, Valdez will be serving up latin tapas, live music and lots and lots of tequila in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.  My snapchat fam knows how much I love a celebration (does anyone else remember the night myself and a couple of bloggers tore of up the city in sombreros?) Tickets are going fast, so definitely pick yours up now to make sure that you're part of the action!  See you there!

What do you guys think?  What did you love for the month of April?  Do you love a night fuelled by tequila and sombreros like I do?  Let me know!

OOTD - Peach Off The Shoulder Dress

The off-the-shoulder trend is huge going into Spring, and I've been reluctant to hop on board.  This is typical behaviour for me: I like to sit back and watch how a trend evolves before diving in myself. Leave it to a good sale to change my ming though; when I saw this peach off-the-shoulder dress on Shopbop during their friends and family sale, I had to have it! I absolutely love the delicate pattern of the dress, both subtle horizontal lines and little flowers. The tie sleeves are a great detail, and I love the retro vibe that the off-the-shoulder neckline gives off.  Paired with my favourite saddle bag and a pair of block heels, this outfit is the perfect retro throwback. Off-the-shoulder, I like you.  I like you a lot.

Dress - WAYF, Bag - Chloe Drew (mini in Cement Pink)
Shoes - c/o Le Chateau

I'm thrilled to announce that I've signed on with Le Chateau as one of their monthly shoe ambassadors.  Each month I get to show you an incredible pair of shoes of my selection - exciting!  This month was an easy choice - I needed these Italian-made suede block heel sandals. The natural suede is the perfect colour, and makes your legs look incredibly long - perfect for us petite ladies! I also am loving the block heel, another huge trend for Spring and going into Summer.  The heel gives a retro vibe and because it's much thicker than your typical pump it makes the sandals so comfortable.

What do you guys think?  Are you into the off-the-shoulder trend?  Have you added any pieces to your wardrobe yet?  Are you as easily influenced by a sale as I am? Let me know!

OOTD - Suede Fringe

Spring has definitely arrived, but I feel as though I've been dreaming about Spring fashion since well into the winter. When I was invited by Lemonberry to be a part of their Spring fashion lookbook, I jumped at the chance!  Lemon berry is an adorable boutique right outside of Toronto in Aurora, Ontario.  You guys know that I'm all about the boutique shopping, so this experience was amazing for me. Being let loose in a beautiful boutique to style looks for the upcoming Spring season? Yes, please! Although the weather certainly didn't get the memo (it was a snow storm during these photos, if you can believe it) Gabriella, Eleni, Jackie and I all had a blast! If you're in the Aurora area and are looking for a beautiful boutique shopping experience, look no further than Lemonberry - you'll definitely be glad that you stopped by!

Suede Fringe Jacket - Soia and Kyo via Lemonberry, Romper - Gentle Fawn via Lemonberry
Clutch - Matt and Nat via Lemonberry

I've been searching for a mustard clutch for some time now, and I love how this one from Matt and Nat is the perfect size and colour.  Plus everything from this brand is 100% vegan, which is awesome.

What do you guys think?  Are you into the suede fringe jacket?  How about the pop of mustard in an otherwise very neutral outfit?  Let me know!

OOTD - Nude Lace Dress

Do you guys remember the episode of Sex And The City, when Carrie first started dating Mr. Big and she wore what she described at the Naked Dress? Well I think that this nude-coloured lace dress is the perfect alternative to those of us who really don't want to be mistaken for being naked. You guys know that I love a good crop-top-pencil-skirt combination, especially when it's only showing a little skin.  This lace dress is so easy in the fact that it's actually a one-piece that's meant to look like two, and it has a thin panel of material connecting the two - perfect for those who are more conservative.  Paired with my favourite pair of nude lace-up heels, this is the perfect outfit for any upcoming Spring wedding showers, weddings or celebrations in general.

Dress - TeezeMe, Shoes - Le Chateau, Bag - Clare V

What do you guys think?  Are you into the two-piece dress look?  What about the 'naked dress' look? Let me know!

OOTD - Stripes For Spring

If there's one pattern that I think is universally flattering, it's got to be stripes. Wearing stripes adds such a clean element to any outfit, and instantly gives your outfit a more classic feel. Keeping with my white jean obsession this spring, I paired them with my favourite striped tank and chambray shirt.  The results were fresh, and perfect for the sunshine and warm weather that we're experiencing.

Striped Tank - Club Monaco, Jeans - Old Navy, Shoes - Club Monaco
Chambray Shirt - Winners, Tote - Madewell

What do you guys think? Are you into stripes as much as I am, or do you have another favourite pattern?  Has the weather warmed up in your area? Let me know!

OOTD - White and Peach

Even though the weather outside is anything but Spring, my wardrobe choices of late have been light and airy.  White denim seems to be my pant of choice, and I love pairing my jeans with a light top and accessories.  This peach shirt is perfect for spring - the colour is amazing, the loose fit makes it so easy and the bottom is adorned with pearls!  I picked up this shirt at Lemonberry, a boutique in Aurora, Ontario after participating in their Spring photoshoot (more photos to come.) The details of this top make it so unique, and it just adds to the argument of why you should shop at boutique stores. Paired with light accessories, I'm ready to take on the much-anticipated warm spring weather.  Anytime now, Mother Nature.  Anytime.

Top - Lemonberry, Jeans - Old Navy, Shoes - Stuart Weitzman Nouveau Pump
Bag - Chloe.

I'll admit that I usually suffer from huge buyers remorse when investing in luxury items, but the Chloe Drew bag had me at 'hello.' I'm absolutely loving the retro silhouette and the colour is the perfect compliment for a lighter wardrobe palette.  While the chain strap isn't for everyone, it's one of my favourite features of the bag and I've worn comfortably all day without any issues. No buyers remorse here, only excitement for the weather to warm up so that I can take this baby out of the closet more often!

I spy a beautiful vintage ring on my middle finger! I picked up this unique treasure from Miaou Vintage this past weekend, and love the unique addition to my collection.  I'm not one to have any luck while vintage shopping, so I appreciate how Miaou curated a collection that seems to have my name all over it.  Definitely check them out!

What do you guys think?  Do you have beautiful weather where you are, or is it still chilly like in Toronto?  What is your colour palette for Spring?  Let me know!

How To Avoid Looking Like A Tourist In Europe

I'm always very conscious about looking like a tourist when I'm traveling through Europe.  Wether it's Paris, Rome, Athens or anything in between the truth is that the service you receive is much better when you're not automatically labeled a tourist.  It's also a safety issue for me - thieves and pickpockets generally are more apt to leave you alone if you're not immediately identified as a foreigner. Although the style of dress varies from country to country, I always follow these 5 tips in any european city that I'm visiting and they've always served me well.

how to not look like a tourist in paris

1. Wear Closed Toe Shoes

This has definitely become my number one rule when packing footwear for a Eurotrip. While it may be tempting to wear sandals or open-toe shoes when walking around a warm city, try to stick with a closed toe flat. Europeans label sandals exclusively for the beach, so unless you're in a beach town stick to a closed toe.  Sleek black leather boots are almost always a safe choice, but if the weather is a little warmer where you are then stick to a comfortable ballet flat.

2. Avoid Showing Your Camera

This is a no-brainer, but it's worth the mention - avoid showing your camera while traveling around different cities in Europe. Not only is it beneficial to keep your camera under wraps while you're on the go, but that also applies to looking through photos when you're stopped.  Avoid pulling out your camera to look through photos when you're on any form of public transit; this is typically where pickpockets strike the most, and your camera will make you a huge target.

3. Hide Your Water Bottle

I remember once chatting to a shop owner in Paris, asking her how she identifies tourists and her answer was simple: she always looks for people walking around with a water bottle.  While it's practical to travel with a water bottle, especially when it's hot out and you're doing lots of walking, try to carry a bag that is big enough to stash it inside. I have a Longchamp Le Pliage bag in the 'small' size and it's perfect to carry all of your essentials, a camera and your water bottle.

4. Dress Conservatively

Of course each European country is different, and has a different sense of style but the one thing that is consistent if you want to avoid looking like a tourist is to dress conservatively.  Keep your shorts, mini skirts and tube tops at home.  Always be mindful of balance, wearing longer sleeves with a shorter skirt or covering your legs when wearing a sleeveless top.  Take it from someone who wore shorts while traveling through Paris - just say no, and dress conservatively.

5. Stick To Neutrals

When it doubt, pack neutrals. Not only will sticking to neutrals make packing so much easier, it also helps to avoid any un-wanted attention that bright, loud colours attract.  I like to pack the majority in neutral colours, wait to see what the stye is in the city I'm visiting and purchase a fun accessory in the on-trend colour when I'm there (the last time I was in Paris, it was an orange scarf.)  Not only does this process make packing so much easier, but it also leaves you with great souvenirs from your travels.

Traveling trough Europe is an incredible experience, and doing your best to avoid looking like a tourist only adds to that experience.  What do you guys think?  What are your tips while traveling through Europe?  Let me know!
